Hives treatment against Varroa destructor - Parasitic mite
THEamitraz is a synthetic substance which, thanks to its neurotoxic activity, allows paralysis of varroa mites resulting their fall and their mortality by simple gravity.
Thongs made of plastics containing amitraz will be placed in the hive in order to release this substance during the entire duration of the treatment.
An extended-release treatment
THEApivar de Veto-Pharma has a technology to release the active during the entire treatment period. This makes it possible to cover the different waves of emergence of the varroa. It is important to plan treatments during the year (at least 4 times a year) to stem the infestation.
Learn, test and treat
Treatment is not the only action to be taken. In fact, in order to adapt the treatment and know the extent of the infestation, it is important to obtain information from your veterinarian and the competent organizations in your region. You can also test your hives with theVetopharma Easy Check.
Vary treatments
The presence of the varroa parasite is noted when the same treatments and the same active ingredients are used each year. It is recommended to rotate assets.
What to remember for effective treatment
- There is no temperature constraint: you can use theApivar at any time.
- Respect the doses : We recommend 2 strips per hive. Using more strips can lead to risk of residue and fewer strips decrease their effectiveness.
- Scrape the strips halfway : This gives a boost to the treatment and accentuates its effectiveness
- Treat the entire colony at the same time : In order to stem the spread of Varroa, a global treatment avoids re-infestation.
- The strips must remain in place for 6 weeks for effective treatment : You can grow up to 10 weeks in the presence of brood.
- Use the lanyard quickly after opening : The strips oxidize in the open air. Once opened, the product should be used immediately. Do not store once opened.

A strap of 15 g contains:
Active substance : Amitraz: 500 mg
excipient : Ethylene vinyl acetate …… 15 g
Treatment in the hive: Use two strips per hive (1g of amitraz per hive), no more no less
- Step 1: Remove supers before applying Apivar
- Step 2: Separate the double lanyard
- Step 3: Push the pre-cut V-shaped area out of the thong
- Step 4: Place each strip between two frames in the brood area or cluster of bees, with a minimum distance of 2 frames between the strips. The straps should be placed so that the bees can access both sides of the strap. The strips can also be suspended through the hole in the area above the pre-cut V, using a small nail (or a hook, toothpick, etc.) attached to the frames.

The ready-to-use tabs facilitate treatment. Too bad however that the product is a synthetic insecticide. Difficult for the moment to do without it.
