Poultry respiration & allergies

Support your birds' breathing with our specialised solutions. Find effective care for poultry respiration & allergies at the best price.

Preventing and treating respiratory disorders in the backyard flock

The importance of good poultry respiration & allergies

The health of hens relies on an efficient respiratory system. Indeed, birds have a complex anatomy with air sacs. This structure makes them highly sensitive to the quality of the surrounding air. Poor management of poultry respiration & allergies can weaken your entire flock. Fine particles and ammonia irritate their fragile mucous membranes on a daily basis.

Signs of congestion are often quickly visible in affected birds. You may notice nasal discharge or frequent sneezing. Sometimes, the bird breathes with its beak open to seek oxygen. These symptoms indicate distress that must be treated promptly. Ignoring these signals often leads to a significant drop in laying. In severe cases, this results in high mortality within the henhouse.

This is why we offer solutions tailored to these specific conditions. Our products help clear the upper airways effectively. They also strengthen natural defences against external aggressions. Prompt intervention ensures the lasting well-being of your precious birds.

Treating environmental and infectious causes of colds

The living environment directly influences the pulmonary health of your birds. Bedding dust is a major allergen for birds. It carries mould spores and irritating organic debris. These elements trigger chronic inflammatory reactions in the most sensitive subjects. It is therefore crucial to purify the air to limit these unnecessary risks.

Moreover, coryza remains the most feared infectious disease. This bacterial condition spreads like wildfire. It requires a combined approach of hygiene and targeted care. The use of essential oils is particularly recommended in these specific situations. Eucalyptus and thyme have powerful expectorant and antiseptic properties. They help expel bothersome secretions while cleansing the body.

Finally, do not forget the role of humidity in the onset of disorders. A henhouse that is too humid promotes the proliferation of airborne pathogens. Our dietary supplements support metabolism during these phases of climatic transition. This helps your animals get through winter safely. Good prevention drastically limits the need for heavier treatments.

Frequently asked questions about Poultry respiration & allergies

Can you be allergic to hens?

Allergy to hens does indeed exist in humans. It often manifests as respiratory reactions when cleaning the henhouse. Feathers, dander and especially droppings contain allergenic proteins. Exposure to bedding dust can cause rhinitis or asthma. In rarer cases, this is referred to as bird fancier's lung. This is an extrinsic allergic alveolitis caused by prolonged inhalation. Wearing a protective mask is therefore strongly recommended for breeders. Regular cleaning of the premises also reduces the concentration of these allergens in the air.

Can chickens cause lung diseases?

Chicken farming generates a significant amount of organic dust in suspension. These particles come from the breakdown of bedding and feed. A high concentration of ammonia is also released from fermented droppings. This gas deeply irritates the lungs of both birds and humans. Without adequate ventilation, these conditions promote chronic respiratory diseases. Professional breeders therefore closely monitor indoor air quality. Good, dry bedding and constant ventilation are vital for health and safety. This protects the health of the farmer as much as that of their poultry flock.

What are the most common respiratory diseases in poultry?

Infectious coryza is undoubtedly the most common disease in backyard flocks. It is recognised by swollen eyes and nostrils blocked with pus. Avian mycoplasmosis also causes severe respiratory rales and sinusitis. It is often persistent and requires strict hygiene to be eradicated. Infectious laryngotracheitis is also encountered, causing a sometimes haemorrhagic cough. Aspergillosis, caused by a fungus in mouldy straw, attacks the lungs directly. All these diseases require early detection to avoid total contagion. Isolating sick birds is the first protective measure to apply.

How to naturally treat a hen that has trouble breathing?

To treat a hen naturally, herbal medicine offers remarkable results. Administering eucalyptus-based solutions helps clear congested bronchi. Thyme, used as an infusion or extract, acts as a natural antibiotic. You can add a few drops of cider vinegar to the drinking water. This helps clear mucus and strengthens the intestinal flora. Warm water vapour enriched with essential oils can also help. Place the bird in a carrier in front of a steaming bowl, under supervision. Finally, make sure it stays warm and dry throughout its convalescence.
