Frequently asked questions about Treats and rewards for horses

What is the favourite treat of horses and is it healthy?

It is difficult to name a single favourite treat. Horses generally love sweet flavours. Apples and carrots are very popular. These are well-accepted classics. These fruits and vegetables must be given with caution. Always cut them into small pieces. This avoids the risk of choking. However, favourite treats are not always the healthiest. Many horses enjoy molasses sweets. These products are too rich in sugar. Our selection offers tasty alternatives. They better respect the equine metabolism. This way you combine pleasure and nutritional safety.

What can I give my horse as a treat, apart from industrial products?

You have several natural reward options. They are safe in small quantities. Carrots, apples, pears and bananas are good choices. Beetroot is also highly appreciated. Don't forget compressed hay. It is rich in fibre and low in calories. It makes an excellent reward. Always give small portions at a time. Follow the golden rule of moderation. Homemade treats and rewards for horses can be tempting. Absolutely avoid table scraps. Chocolate, meat or vegetables from the Allium family are toxic to horses.

What can horses be fed as their main food?

A horse's main diet is forage. It should make up at least 70% of its total ration. Good quality hay is the basis. Pasture grass is also essential. Forage ensures the horse's digestive health. It guarantees a steady transit. Concentrated feeds come as a supplement. They are necessary depending on the horse's activity. Cereals, pellets or flaked feeds provide additional energy. They also supply missing minerals and vitamins. Consult a veterinarian or a nutritionist. They will help you determine the most suitable ration. This is crucial for the animal's performance and longevity.
