Phytophale is involved in the stimulation of the hepato-renal function during hyperazotemic syndromes.
Lespedeza capitata: This plant extract is azoturic and mildly diuretic and does not alter the ionic balance.
Artichoke: The leaf extract is diuretic and choleretic. 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid is responsible for an increase in bile flow and induces hepatoprotection against toxic substances (ethanol, carbon tetrachloride, α-amanitin...). Artichoke extracts induce a modification of lipid metabolism (antiatherogenic effect) with a decrease in triglycerides and of around 10 to 12 % in total cholesterol levels. Finally, the combination of substances (notably flavonoids) has an antioxidant capacity demonstrated on hepatocyte cultures.
Orthosiphon: The extract is azoturic and diuretic. The excretion of sodium chloride as well as K+ ions and urea is increased. Several double-blind placebo-controlled clinical studies have confirmed its effect on diuresis. In biological trials, orthosiphols A and B proved to be powerful antiphlogistics and methoxylated flavones have inhibitory properties on 5-lipoxygenase.
