Vitamins for reptiles and tortoises living in captivity

Presentation of Reptil'mines FRANCODEX

Reptil'mines is a complementary feed that provides vitamins to tortoises and reptiles. It complements a diet that may lack certain micronutrients. Its formula supports growth, reproduction, general vitality and bone strength.

The diet of reptiles in captivity can lack variety. This imbalance increases the risk of insufficient vitamin intake and ossification problems.

Are you looking for a vitamin supplement for your tortoise or reptile? Reptil'mines combines several vitamins in a 15 g powder.

FRANCODEX pays particular attention to vitamin D3. It is involved in the absorption of calcium and helps maintain bones and shells.

The product is suitable for maintenance, growth or reproduction periods. These phases can change the animal's nutritional needs.

Reptil'mines was previously named Tortue Vit on some commercial sheets. The current name used by FRANCODEX is Reptil'mines.

The laboratory manufactures this supplement in France.

Composition and role of Reptil'mines vitamins

The basic composition of Reptil'mines includes:

  • lactose;
  • sucrose;
  • sodium chloride;
  • calcium caseinate.

The current official formula provides the following vitamins per kilogram:

  • vitamin A: 8,000,000 UI;
  • vitamin E: 16,000 mg;
  • vitamin D3: 200,000 UI;
  • vitamin B2: 1,400 mg;
  • vitamin PP or niacinamide: 1,000 mg;
  • vitamin B6: 600 mg;
  • vitamin K3: 600 mg;
  • vitamin B1: 600 mg;
  • calcium pantothenate: 200 mg;
  • vitamin C: 100 mg;
  • vitamin B9: 20 mg;
  • vitamin B12: 2.5 mg;
  • biotin: 2 mg.

This formula corresponds to the composition currently published by FRANCODEX. Some older sheets still show a lower vitamin E content.

Vitamin D3, calcium and bone strength

Vitamin D3 plays a central role in calcium metabolism. It helps its absorption and contributes to the mineralization of the skeleton.

In tortoises, this balance also influences the strength of the shell. A lasting imbalance can promote fragility or deformation of bone structures.

However, Reptil'mines remains primarily a vitamin supplement. The presence of calcium caseinate in the formula does not turn the product into a specialized mineral supplement.

FRANCODEX offers Reptil'ium separately for the supply of calcium, minerals and trace elements. The two products therefore meet different nutritional objectives.

Exposure to UVB radiation also influences vitamin D metabolism in many reptiles. The dietary supplement does not replace lighting suited to the species.

Vitamins A, E and C

Vitamin A participates in several biological functions. FRANCODEX presents it in particular as part of the reptile's general vitamin balance.

Vitamin E belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins. The current official formula of Reptil'mines provides 16,000 mg per kilogram.

Vitamin C completes the vitamin complex. However, needs and synthesis capacities can vary depending on the species.

It is therefore important not to multiply supplements without checking their composition. Several products may provide the same vitamins and unnecessarily increase the quantities administered.

B group vitamins and general vitality

Reptil'mines combines several B group vitamins. The formula contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, B9 and B12.

It also includes calcium pantothenate, niacinamide and biotin. These micronutrients complete the formula's nutritional balance.

FRANCODEX associates this vitamin intake with maintaining general vitality. The product also supports the higher needs during growth and reproduction.

A decrease in activity, however, does not always mean that the reptile lacks vitamins. Temperature, lighting, diet, hydration and illness can also play a role.

If in doubt, ask your veterinarian for advice.

Benefits of Reptil'mines vitamins for reptiles and tortoises

  • Multivitamin complex: the formula combines vitamins A, D3, E, C, K3 and several B vitamins.
  • Growth support: FRANCODEX intends Reptil'mines for young reptiles during their development.
  • Reproduction support: the product also meets the needs of reproductive periods.
  • Bone strength: vitamin D3 helps calcium absorption and skeleton mineralization.
  • Shell maintenance: the vitamin balance helps maintain a strong shell in tortoises.
  • General vitality: the vitamin complex supports the overall functioning of the body.
  • Low-variety diet: Reptil'mines complements diets that may present vitamin deficiencies.
  • Multi-species product: FRANCODEX intends it for tortoises and other reptiles.
  • Clearly detailed formula: the official composition specifies the vitamins and their concentrations.
  • Compact format: the bottle contains 15 g of powder.
  • French manufacturing: FRANCODEX states that it manufactures the product in France.
  • Supplement distinct from calcium: Reptil'mines meets a vitamin need, unlike a targeted mineral supplement.

Reptil'mines complements a balanced diet suited to the species. It does not alone correct an inappropriate environment or ration.

The temperature, humidity and lighting of the terrarium also influence the reptile's health. These parameters must match the needs of the species.

Reptil'mines: a vitamin complex for growth and bones

Reptil'mines provides vitamins for reptiles and tortoises living in captivity. Its formula includes notably vitamins A, D3, E, C and several B vitamins.

Vitamin D3 promotes calcium absorption. It thus helps maintain the strength of bones and shells.

FRANCODEX intends this supplement for maintenance, growth and reproduction periods. It is particularly suitable for animals subject to a low-variety diet.

Reptil'mines remains a vitamin supplement. For a targeted supply of calcium and minerals, a formula specifically designed for this purpose should be chosen.

Frequently asked questions about vitamins for reptiles

What vitamins do reptiles need?

Vitamin needs vary depending on the species, age, diet and housing conditions. A herbivorous reptile does not receive the same ration as an insectivorous lizard.

Vitamins A, D3, E and several B group vitamins participate in the major biological functions. Vitamin D3 in particular plays an important role in calcium utilization.

Reptil'mines combines these different vitamins in a single formula. However, a specialized veterinarian can check whether this supplement truly matches the animal's needs.

How much calcium should a leopard gecko receive?

There is no universal amount of calcium suitable for all leopard geckos. Needs depend on age, growth, reproduction and diet.

The calcium to phosphorus ratio of the ration must also be taken into account. Vitamin D3 and UVB exposure also influence calcium utilization.

Reptil'mines is a vitamin supplement and not a product exclusively dedicated to calcium. Ask a specialized veterinarian for advice before combining several supplements.

What are the signs of a vitamin D3 deficiency in a reptile?

A vitamin D3 deficiency can disrupt calcium absorption and promote metabolic bone disease. Signs may include fragility or deformation of bones.

Some reptiles also show a softened jaw, difficulty moving or an abnormally soft shell. Fractures can appear in advanced forms.

These signs require prompt veterinary examination. Treatment depends on diet, UVB lighting and the reptile's general condition.

What is Vita Reptile for tortoises and lizards?

Vita Reptile is another vitamin-enriched complementary feed intended for tortoises and lizards. It is marketed by the laboratory VIRBAC.

Like Reptil'mines, it notably contains vitamins A, D3, E and several B vitamins. However, the two references have their own composition and their own presentation.

Reptil'mines is a FRANCODEX product offered in a 15 g bottle. Labels should be compared before replacing one supplement with another.
