Are you looking for reliable information on this product? This fact sheet summarizes the main data from official documents to help you better understand its indication, composition and precautions for use.
Rectal inflammation may be associated with various local conditions requiring a clinical examination. Identifying the cause remains essential before any appropriate management.
Sedorectal COOPHAVET contains as active substance:
Benzocaine belongs to the family of local anaesthetics. After application, it acts directly on the superficial nerve endings to temporarily reduce the perception of pain in the rectal mucosa.
Local anaesthesia can help improve the animal's comfort when rectal inflammation is accompanied by significant sensitivity in the area concerned.
This is an adjunctive treatment. This means it accompanies the management of the underlying cause identified by the veterinarian but does not replace it.
Sedorectal holds a veterinary Marketing Authorisation (AMM). Information regarding its indications, composition, precautions for use and safety profile can be found in the Summary of Product Characteristics (RCP) published by the ANMV.
As of the update date of this fact sheet, this product is listed as a veterinary medicinal product not subject to veterinary prescription, in accordance with the official RCP.
If in doubt, ask your veterinarian for advice before any treatment.
Sedorectal COOPHAVET is a rectal ointment indicated as an adjunctive treatment for rectal inflammation in dogs. Its formulation is based on benzocaine, a local anaesthetic intended to improve the animal's comfort in the ano-rectal region. Its use should always be part of appropriate management after identifying the cause of the inflammation.
Sedorectal contains benzocaine at a concentration of 10 mg per gram of ointment. This substance belongs to the family of local anaesthetics. Its role is to temporarily reduce the sensitivity of the application area in order to improve the animal's comfort. The full composition and excipients are detailed in the Summary of Product Characteristics published by the ANMV.
Rectogesic is a product intended for human medicine and has different indications from those of Sedorectal. The two products are therefore not directly comparable. In dogs, the choice of treatment always depends on the diagnosis established by the veterinarian and the exact nature of the condition observed.
Relieving the anal glands primarily requires identifying the cause of the problem. Impaction, infection or inflammation may require different management approaches. When your dog shows signs of pain, excessive licking of the anal region or "scooting", a veterinary examination is recommended to implement the most appropriate treatment.
The most common signs are the dog dragging its hindquarters along the ground, repeated licking of the anal region, discomfort during defecation, a bad odour or local pain. In some cases, an abscess may develop. These symptoms warrant a consultation to establish an accurate diagnosis.
