Phytophale is involved in the stimulation of hepato-renal function in cases of hyperazotemic syndromes.
Lespedeza capitata: This plant extract is azoturic and mildly diuretic and does not alter the ionic balance.
Artichoke: The leaf extract is diuretic and choleretic. 1,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid is responsible for an increase in bile flow and induces hepatoprotection against toxins (ethanol, carbon tetrachloride, α-amanitin, etc.). Artichoke extracts bring about a change in lipid metabolism (anti-atherogenic effect) with a reduction in triglycerides and around 10 to 12 % in total cholesterol levels. Finally, the whole range of substances (notably flavonoids) has an antioxidant capacity demonstrated on hepatocyte cultures.
Orthosiphon: The extract is azoturic and diuretic. The excretion of sodium chloride, as well as K+ ions and urea, is increased. Several double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies have confirmed its activity on diuresis. In biological trials, orthosiphols A and B proved to be powerful anti-inflammatory agents, and the methoxylated flavones have inhibitory properties on 5-lipoxygenase.
