Seresikan cat: long-lasting protection against fleas and ticks

Seresikan cat 1,25 g/0,56 g by Clément Thékan is an antiparasitic collar designed for cats simultaneously exposed to fleas and ticks.

It combines two complementary active substances: imidacloprid and flumethrin. They are gradually released by the collar and then spread across the animal's skin and coat.

Its insecticidal activity against fleas Ctenocephalides felis lasts 7 to 8 months. The collar also helps prevent new infestations by certain tick species for a period of up to 8 months.

This presentation is exclusively intended for cats. It comes in the form of a 38 cm collar.

In which cases should Seresikan be used in cats?

Seresikan is indicated for cats infested with or at risk of mixed flea and tick infestation. Its use is therefore particularly suited to situations where both types of parasites need to be targeted simultaneously.

Against fleas, the collar treats infestations by Ctenocephalides felis and helps prevent their return for 7 to 8 months.

It can also be part of a management strategy for flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) once this has previously been diagnosed by a veterinarian.

In the cat's immediate environment, its action helps limit the development of flea larvae for 10 weeks.

Which ticks are targeted by the Seresikan collar?

Seresikan acts against several developmental stages of ticks: larvae, nymphs and adults.

It helps prevent reinfestations by:

• Ixodes ricinus, with acaricidal activity and a repellent anti-feeding effect;
• Rhipicephalus turanicus, through its acaricidal activity.

Prevention of new infestations begins within 2 days of fitting the collar and can last up to 8 months.

A tick may nevertheless manage to attach despite treatment. The risk of transmission of a vector-borne disease can therefore never be entirely ruled out.

A collar with a safety release mechanism for cats

A cat's lifestyle increases the risk of the collar catching on something when climbing, exploring bushes or moving through narrow spaces.

The Seresikan collar therefore incorporates a safety release mechanism. If the cat exceptionally becomes caught by its collar, the force exerted by the animal will generally break the system to allow it to free itself.

This feature is a particularly important point for cats with outdoor access.

Composition of Seresikan cat 1,25 g/0,56 g

Each Seresikan collar measures 38 cm and weighs 12.5 g.

It contains two active substances:

• Imidacloprid: 1,25 g
• Flumethrin: 0,56 g

Imidacloprid has insecticidal activity against fleas. Flumethrin notably has acaricidal activity against ticks.

These substances are released slowly and continuously while the collar is worn and gradually spread over the cat's skin surface.

How to fit the Seresikan collar on a cat?

Use one collar per cat and for external use only.

Remove Seresikan from its protective sachet just before fitting. Unroll the collar completely and check that no plastic fastening element remains inside.

Then place the collar around the cat's neck without tightening it too much. You should be able to fit about two fingers between the neck and the collar.

Pass the free end through the buckle, then cut off the excess length, leaving no more than 2 cm after the buckle. Dispose of the cut-off piece immediately.

The cat must keep wearing its collar continuously throughout the protection period, for a maximum duration of 8 months. Check the fit regularly, particularly for a young cat that is growing.

When should Seresikan be fitted?

Ideally, the collar should be fitted before the start of the season during which fleas and ticks are particularly present.

Before fitting, inspect the cat's coat. Ticks already attached may remain visible after the collar is fitted. It is therefore recommended to remove any ticks present at the time of treatment.

In a home heavily infested with fleas, also consider the cat's resting areas. Baskets, rugs, cushions and sofas can harbour different stages of the parasite. Regular vacuuming and, if necessary, appropriate treatment of the environment can complement the management of the infestation.

Is the Seresikan cat collar water resistant?

Yes. Seresikan is water resistant and retains its effectiveness if the cat is occasionally wetted.

However, repeated shampooing as well as prolonged or extensive exposure to water may reduce the duration of the collar's activity.

From what age can Seresikan be used on a kitten?

Seresikan must not be used on a kitten under 10 weeks of age.

This age limit differs notably from that of presentations intended for dogs. For a young animal, also regularly check the collar's adjustment to adapt it to its growth.

What precautions should be taken with Seresikan cat?

Do not use the collar on an animal with a known hypersensitivity to any of the active substances or to any of its components.

Its use is not recommended during pregnancy or lactation.

When handling the collar, avoid prolonged contact with the skin and wash your hands with cold water after fitting it. Young children should not play with the collar or put it in their mouths.

It is also advisable not to let a cat wearing Seresikan sleep in the same bed as its owner, particularly with children.

Local reactions may occasionally appear around the neck, including itching, redness or hair loss. In case of a significant or persistent reaction, remove the collar and seek advice from your veterinarian or pharmacist.
